This perfume smells just like Cousins Beach, because ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ withdrawals are real

Apr 20, 2024

As a perpetual pessimist, I have to remind you that summer is basically over, and the second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty just ended. The Cousins Beach house is closed, and winter is coming.

As both a Conrad Fisher enthusiast and double Pisces (sun and moon, besties), I completely sympathize with the need to feel like you’re near the Atlantic Ocean at all times. So, I, a 20something, put out my best Belly-cosplaying-as-Nancy-Drew vibes and searched for a perfume that smells like Cousins Beach and nostalgic teenage heartbreak. And The Cape Eau de Parfum by ABBOTT is the closest thing.

Basically, the ABBOTT The Cape Eau de Parfum is a Cape Cod winter in a bottle. It’s a crisp, aquatic and fresh scent that you can (and should) wear all year long. Beach vibes are forever.

It smells like sand under your feet, the fresh sea air and both of Fisher brothers, probably.

Quick science break: There are a ton of studies out there on the strong relationship between memory and fragrance. A 2021 study suggests that scent can trigger intense memories and emotions thanks to the connection between the olfactory system and the brain’s hippocampus (where all of our memories, pleasure, pain and motivation hang out).

As far as the actual scent breakdown goes, The Cape Eau de Parfum is a refreshing and low-key nostalgic mix of marine, sandalwood and ginger. The universal sandalwood is the ideal bridge between the summery marine and the wintery ginger. You’re basically at Cousins Beach during the off-season — aka when Belly and Conrad snuck into the beach house around the holidays.

Beyond the scent, the formula has no parabens, no phthalates and no sulfates. It’s also PETA-certified vegan and cruelty-free. On top of that, the glass bottle is reusable and recyclable. Just remove and discard the label, cap and any spray parts, including the dip tube. Then rinse out the glass portion and reuse or recycle. And, of course, recycle the paper box.

So yes, The Cape Eau de Parfum is pretty much Cousins Beach and The Summer I Turned Pretty in a bottle. And yes, I will be wearing it all winter long.

It smells like sand under your feet, the fresh sea air and both of Fisher brothers, probably.
